What would a typical day consist of?

Meet after breakfast for 8:30, check out the weather, assess the potential for the day and agree a schedule for getting up to launch. Round off the debriefs from yesterday evenings discussions and cover any questions.

8:30 till 10:00 - discussions and presentation on today's topics, review and agree the strategies for today's goals

Get to launch for 10:30 ish and assess the quality of the day. Prepare gear to be ready for the first usable thermals, agree on a course direction and personal goals. Into the air by 11:00 then work the day we have. Relaunches where required then work as a group onto the course. As the day warms up start to move up the course and get a feel for the day. Practice the declared goals and make the best of the day

Retrieve the group and initially debrief whilst heading back to town

Get together for dinner around 7:00pm ish, debrief over dinner, download tracklogs, discuss highs and lows, good decisions and decisions that can improve. Check gear then hand over for the evening

What do we do if we get bad weather?

The aim of the clinic is thermalling and XC skills development. A significant part of the clinic is delivered via discusion and developing goal orientated strategies. We also need to fly to explore many of these topics and ideas. We will be disappointed if we do not fly at least two of the 3 days, would be great to fly all of them

How does the retrieve system work?

All pilots will need a clear inflight radio communications system (we can work with you to help you get this properly sorted out) and a mobile phone.

We all fly together each day, as you fly we routinely radio to the retrieve driver your position . If they have not heard from you enough they will ask you for updates. When you land you radio and SMS (text) your location to the retrieve driver. The retrieve driver has a vehicle based GPS that will take your location and guide the driver to you, they also have maps of the area. If you have a GPS it gets easier still.

What does the clinic cost?

The 3 day clinic costs are

$450 Bright

$550 Manilla

$550 Canungra

Tour costs can change but we will strive to keep it as advertised

What is the philosophy of the clinic?

What is involved in the skills development?

An important part of the tour is individual and group goal orientated skills development.

We work with each pilot to identify areas of opportunity to develop and improve individual skills. We discuss and agree strategies to work towards measurably improving those skills. We jointly identify achievable goals that over time demonstrate how well those strategies are working.

Some of this opportunities are discussed and developed before the tour via an internet based remote skills development process.

All of these opportunities, strategies and goals are documented and become part of a skills improvement package that you take away with you to continue to use and develop your flying.

What equipment do I need to bring?

Paralider, harness, reserve, vario, radio. GPS is good but not mandatory.

What skill level is required?

You need a minimum of an HGFA Novice/restricted licence, with 15+ current flights this season
